Poppyscotland is at the forefront of delivery of support to Scotland's Armed Forces and veterans and their dependants across Scotland.

A considerable amount of the funding for this comes from funds raised by the annual Scottish Poppy Appeal, as well as from other year-round fundraising activities.

We are looking for a proactive professional to help increase the profile and understanding of the work of Poppyscotland.

The successful applicant will achieve this by developing and implementing our established learning and educational programme across all levels of education as well as the youth sector.


An understanding of the Scottish education system is essential together with experience of developing relationships across a wide range of external stakeholders.

Experience of managing projects to completion within budget and deadlines is also essential.

A military background or good knowledge of the military would be beneficial, but is not essential. Some flexibility with hours is required. A full driving licence is essential.


This is a permanent post, working 35 hours a week, with occasional weekend and evening working to meet business needs.

Role Purpose:


To implement a Learning strategy by developing, delivering and evaluating learning resources and initiatives suitable for primary, secondary, tertiary education and the youth sector in order to increase the profile and understanding of Poppyscotland's work and to increase participation and funding from these sources.


The role will be based in the Edinburgh office but some travel within Scotland and weekend work will be required.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Resources Creation, Strategy and Policy Development_
  • Create and produce highly creative, relevant and compelling content (lessons, resources) which reflects our diverse audiences and veterans.
  • Ensure resources are accessible on the Poppyscotland Learning website as well as via a variety of digital media and platforms for schools, youth organisations and militarylinked groups.
  • Research ways of improving our website, films collection and resources by reviewing existing activities to determine gaps and potential development areas in elearning provision.
  • Write, edit and manage content within the Learning website, as well as respond to learning pack orders and general enquiries as required.
  • Act upon the findings of audience needs to make recommendations to Deputy Head of Learning & Outreach.
  • Research and implement the first phase of the online LitKit project by working closely with Deputy Head of Learning & Outreach and relevant collaborators to develop this project over time.
  • To support, promote and develop resources for the Bud project and any other new strands of the learning programme as they emerge.
  • To support the delivery of a speaker's network strategy.
  • Communications_
  • Develop and deliver the annual PS Schools Learning Pack in line with Poppyscotland Learning messaging, working with designer and Deputy Head of Learning & Outreach to achieve print deadlines and delivery of online resources.
  • Manage positive working relationships with learning resources collaborators.
  • Manage all aspects of our Learning Competition (Dec-May) by establishing effective short and longterm relationships with teachers as well as communicating effectively both internally and with external agencies/partners.
  • Develop and grow our Poppyscotland Learning Champions initiative.
  • Compliance / Regulations / Governance_
  • Ensure all activities collect, maintain and manage organisational data in accordance with relevant legislation, GDPR guidelines and Poppyscotland policies.
  • Events Management_
  • Develop and deliver learning activities/classroom resources and tour content within Lady Haig's Poppy Factory. In addition to carrying out regular/monthly checkups with factory staff to ensure tour itineraries and object displays are operating to standard.
  • Deliver learning events, presentations and activities by establishing appropriate relationships with educational establishments and organisations throughout Scotland.
  • Build our portfolio of Live Lessons and other video content which includes creating a Learning studio within Glasgow office and/or on Bud.
  • Financial Reporting_
  • Maintain accurate records of income and expenditure against the learning budget and ensure agreed targets and performance indicators are met.
  • Fundraising_
  • Provide guidance and advice in the development and delivery of fundraising initiatives within schools.
  • Provide support to Poppy Appeal team, as required, during Remembrancetide (usually throughout Oct/Nov).
