We are pleased to be advertising for an Associate Director of People & Culture.

As a member of the People & Culture Senior Leadership Team, the postholder will report to the Deputy Director of People & Culture and take strategic responsibility for the following portfolios of work:


  • Staff Health & Wellbeing (Staff Health & Wellbeing; Occupational Health; and Staff Counselling)
  • Employee Relations
  • HR Business Partnering


As well as providing leadership to the above teams, the postholder will work alongside the Deputy Director of People & Culture to continuously improve our People Practices, ensuring we have HR policies, procedures, and initiatives which have the positive experience of our staff at their core.

In doing so, the postholder will be a key contributor to delivery of our internal Our People Plan, as well as the NHS National People Plan direction.

The postholder will report to and work closely alongside the Deputy Director of People & Culture.

They will be a key member of the People & Culture Directorate Senior Leadership Team and will line manage:


  • Head of Employee Relations
  • Divisional Heads of Workforce
  • Head of Occupational Health
  • Head of Staff Wellbeing
  • Head of Staff Counselling


They will need to build close and trusting relationships with their line reports, as well as other key portfolio leads across the People & Culture Directorate.

They will deputise for the Deputy Director of People & Culture as and when required.


They will also lead of key People & Culture programmes of work, specifically focussing on continuously improving our People Practices and Policies in order to underpin our organisational values and deliver the National People Promise.

Line Management Responsibilities

The postholder will report to and work closely alongside the Deputy Director of People & Culture.

They will be a key member of the People & Culture Directorate Senior Leadership Team and will line manage:


  • Head of Employee Relations
  • Divisional Heads of Workforce
  • Head of Occupational Health
  • Head of Staff Wellbeing
  • Head of Staff Counselling


They will be expected to provide strategic leadership to the Staff Health and Wellbeing agenda, our People Policies and Practices and our HR Business Partnering model.

People & Culture (HR) programmes of work

  • At any given time, the postholder will hold a portfolio of People & Culture programmes of improvement work. These will focus on improving People Practices at the Trust and making Nottinghamshire Healthcare a 'great place to work'.
  • For some programmes they will fulfil a 'Project Manager' role, supporting other senior People & Culture leads to progress projects. For other programmes they will be the project lead.
  • Through delivery of these improvement programmes, the postholder will contribute towards the development and delivery of the Trust's Our People Plan and the National People Plan direction.
People Practices

  • The postholder will have strategic responsibility for all People Policies.
  • They will aim to ensure all our People Policies are 'best in class' and focus on a Just & Restorative approach to supporting and managing our colleagues.
  • The postholder will be responsible for keeping abreast of key legislative, statutory or NHSspecific changes to People Practices and interpreting and enacting these for the Trust.
  • The postholder will have responsibility for progressing the provision of high quality strategic and operational workforce support to ensure best practice HR management across the Trust.
  • They will be responsible for proactively ensuring that they contribute HR expertise advice to business decision making and develop innovative HR solutions to support Trust strategy.
