The central Bristol Office is made up of approximately 50 professionals.It is an established and successful multidisciplinary office that includes Urban Design/Masterplanning, Architecture, Landscape Planning and Design, Town Planning, EIA and Graphic Communications.
The office is open plan and benefits from a friendly and sociable atmosphere.
This is a unique opportunity for the right individual to develop their career, working on and contributing to a wide range of projects varying in scale and sector, including prestigious urban regeneration, new town settlements, tall buildings, strategic, residential/mixed use, infrastructure, solar and energy projects at various stages through the planning process.
The focus of the role is on providing Landscape and Townscape Planning input to inform design, reporting on landscape/townscape and visual impact and to provide strategic and detailed design advice on prestigious schemes.
About you
- Preliminary landscape and visual appraisals to inform the development process (assessing landscape and visual opportunities and constraints of site and project brief, through deskbased research, site visits, planning authority and stakeholder consultations as required) and advice to project team and / or client.
- Baseline landscape and visual text for promotional Vision documents
- Landscape and visual impact assessments
- Conceptual and strategic design sketches as appropriate
- Townscape and visual impact assessments and tall building assessments
- LVIA/TVIA chapters for inclusion in Environmental Statements
- Strategic assessments of landscape designated land such as Green Belts and Strategic Gaps
- Landscape Capacity Studies and character assessments
- Representations to Local plans
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Produce reports, undertake site work and oversee preparation of illustrative material including briefing landscape technicians
- Work as both a team member and a mentor to less experienced colleagues where required
- Work cooperatively with colleagues throughout the practice, contribute to activities within own team and guide and support less experienced colleagues where relevant
- Brief junior colleagues for the preparation of supporting illustrative and photographic material
- Project manage within agreed timescales and fees, and oversee less experienced team members working on smaller projects
- Have strong graphic, verbal and written communication skills to communicate ideas in a clear and engaging way
- Have good design skills and an understanding of the design process
- Have an aspiration to progress within your career and a commitment to ongoing professional development
- Be able to organise your own time
- Carry out day to day project management
- Communicate with other professionals as required by each project brief
- Contribute to production of documents and briefings
- Take responsibility for quality of own work, engage positively with review by others, and consider ways of improving work processes
- Have a broad interest in both strategic landscape planning and design
- Possess the skills to communicate ideas in a clear and engaging way
- Have experience in the use of ZTV to support visual analysis
- Draft scope and fee proposals
- Ideally be a chartered member of the landscape institute with strong to extensive experience in the above (dependant on the level of position sought)
