Kier Places are recruiting now for a Head of Commercial to join our Facilities Management (FM) report to the Operations Director and take responsibility for the commercial function with overall accountability to increase value, reduce cost, drive profit and manage risk in a safe and ethical manner.


You will be responsible, alongside the wider management team, for the strategic leadership, direction and development of Kier Facilities Management, whilst identifying new commercial opportunities and driving growth across business activities.


As this is a national role, your base office will be Basingstoke, Hampshire, ideally you will be located so as to allow for frequent visits to contracts, clients and other Kier offices.


Key Responsibilities


As Head of Commercial you will ensure all opportunities are maximised, Profit and Loss are fully understood and there are no surprises with the numbers.

As a pivotal member of the Management Team, you will also contribute to Business Unit Strategy, Direction and Business Plans.

Leading a team of roles including Commercial, Surveying and Administration, you will also cover all aspects associated with performance management, personal performance reviews, disciplinary action and learning and development of the team.


The Head of Commercial will contribute to the Business Unit Strategy, Direction and Business Plans, work closely with the Business Unit Management Team to roll-out initiatives, lead a team including, Commercial, Surveying, Procurement and Administration; this will also cover all aspects associated with performance management and provide assistance within tender production and Ownership for tender settlement; to ensure the commercial team play a pivotal role in the handover of the tender and are proactive in setting tough but fair profitability targets.

There is management of the commercial team to ensure all variations are produced and claimed, including other formal records for extra works and to maximise the evaluation of these, ensuring that the contract review process focuses on contract performance, WIP, debt, etc.

and to ensure that forecast final cost, value and profit reconciliations are produced against the contracts on a monthly basis.

You will also promote the wellbeing of your team and ensure that an all inclusive workplace where diversity of thought, backgrounds and experience is actively encouraged and achieved


What do we need from you?


Is this your opportunity for the taking? To be a Head of Commercial with Kier, you should have previous experience in a management role of similar teams within the FM sector and work type.


To make the most of this role, you'll have the ability to confidently present & report performance to the Senior Management; have managerial & leadership experience with the ability to promote best practice by utilising efficient business management practices; have excellent communication skills at all stakeholder levels; and have relevant management & facilities management qualifications for hard and soft FM services, including Institution of Occupational Safety and Health / IOSH accreditation.


Due to the nature of this role, you should hold a full driving licence & be willing to travel across the country to other offices & sites.
