Description

Supporting a Lead File Handler with a caseload of high value military NIHL claims and assisting on all aspects of a large Group Litigation of military NIHL cases.


Key Accountabilities

  • To undertake initial steps on a file including sending out acknowledgements, and procedural documents.
  • Conduct such investigations as are appropriate and as may be delegated from time to time by the Lead File Handler)
  • Carry out standard procedural tasks, e.g. Instructions to lead counsel and experts.
  • Progress so as to be able to carry out nonstandard procedural tasks, including drafting nonstandard court documents.
  • Assists in collating key data and checking accuracy of group register containing 4000 claims.
Where appropriate, review medical records and take witness statements and disclosure.

  • To assist the Lead File Handler(s) in progressing the file in the most appropriate manner.
  • Undertake Legal Research: attend client presentations; take training notes; attend court with counsel;; attend conferences.
  • Assist in preparing for trial on lead cases, including collating documentation and preparing extensive trial bundles.
  • Manages a small caseload of high value (under supervision) military deafness claims with the objective of working towards a higher financial authority.

Activity Time Frames:

  • Adaptable; follows the direction of the LFH and prioritises own activity on a daily basis.
  • Scale and Scope
  • Typically expect 6.6 chargeable hours per day, to be agreed at team/local level.
  • Supports one or more Lead File Handler(s)
  • Works on the case load of the Lead File Handler
  • Complete delegated tasks within time frame agreed with Lead File Handler
Working Hours
35 hours per week
Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch.
Primary location for this role is Coventry


Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Ideally a degree in Law/LPC Graduates/ILEX trained
  • Knowledge of Disease essential
  • Litigation experience is essential
  • Previous experience of handling own caseload or assisting "lead File Handlers" with their caseloads.
  • Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking.
  • IT Literate;
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Experienced in using a Claims/Case Management system
