The Purchasing and Homecare Team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital is looking to recruit a senior assistant technical officer, who will specialise in pharmacy Procurement and Medicines Homecare management.

You will work as part of our fantastic pharmacy procurement team.

Supporting the management of all areas of the medicines supply chain including out of stocks, medicines shortages and sourcing alternative medicines.

Assist in the monitoring the performance of wholesalers/suppliers and produce reports, collate data and liaise with the regional contracting authority, PPSA (Peninsula Purchasing and Supply Alliance)

You will assist the High-cost drugs and Homecare Monitoring Officer in the provision of Homecare services. Support the High-Cost drugs and Homecare Monitoring Officer to manage and produce monthly financial analysis of homecare provision.

This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours per week


There will be the opportunity to work from home, this will be on a rotational basis to meet the needs of the service.


  • You will work a Saturday morning every 8 weeks for which you will get an equivalent amount of hours back in the following week.


This is an exciting opportunity for the right person, you must hold 5 GCSEs grade C or above including maths and English or equivalent.

You will hold a CIPs level 3 qualification or be willing to work towards one.

You will have experience of working in a hospital or a pharmacy and be able to work as part of a team.

Monitor the performance of wholesalers/suppliers and produce reports, collate data and send to the PPSA (Peninsula Purchasing and Supply Alliance)


Support the management of all areas of the medicines supply chain including out of stock, shortages and off contract credit claims.

Support the commercial partnership with Lloyds Pharmacy providing out -patient dispensing for RCHT

Support the High-Cost drugs and Homecare Monitoring Officer to manage and produce monthly financial analysis of homecare provision

To provide and receive complex and confidential information relating to patient details, condition and medication.

Identify any discrepancies in the process of the provision of homecare and contact either verbally or by written communication the prescriber or homecare company to resolve the problem

Assist the High-cost drugs and Homecare Monitoring Officer in the provision of Homecare services

To support the Chief Assistant Technical Officer in the management of all orders for a full range of medicines and pharmaceuticals, from authorised suppliers using the Pharmacy computer stock control system.

Responsible for ensuring that official purchase orders placed for the procurement of medicines on behalf of the trust are in accordance with agreed financial authorisation procedures/protocols

Respond to medicines supply issues and customer requirements to ensure high levels of service to patients. Using purchasing tools and information consistently and robustly to ensure a proactive approach to the purchasing and supply of medicines

Supports the Chief Pharmacy Technician by providing a professional service to customers. This includes providing advice, resolving queries and placing orders that require negotiation and persuasive skills to ensure a successful and responsive service


To ensure National, Regional, Peninsula and Trust procurement contracts and procurement agreement details are maintained on the Pharmacy computer system.

To assist in the development and maintenance of systems to demonstrate cost savings obtained from national and regional contracts.


To pro-actively review all outstanding orders and out of stock lines and delays in supply from manufacturers and source alternative suppliers and pack sizes as appropriate.


To be responsible for the development and management "off contract" credit claims ensuring the Trust receives maximum financial rebates for all out-of-stock contract lines.


To use Rx-Info Exend Plus to monitor and assign reason to all off contract purchase for the purposes of auditing supplier, prescriber and the accuracy of purchasing processes.


Authorise any change in price at the invoicing stage ensuring any increase in price is accurate and appropriate, escalating any issues that are unable to be resolved to the Chief Pharmacy Technician.

Organises and prioritises own activities of work to ensure timely product availability and supply which supports clinical/patient care.

To monitor and resolve any critical Out-of-stocks and bring to the attention of the Chief Pharmacy Technician any that need escalating in a proacti
