Band 5 Assistant Psychologist - Waltham Forest Memory Service


We have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic psychology graduates for the role of Assistant Psychologist in our Memory Service in Waltham Forest.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with an interest in ageing and later-life who is looking to gain relevant experience in applied psychology prior to professional training.

We are able to offer a Full-time post for a Band 5.

The post holder will undertake initial assessments, conduct audits and assist in group work activities.

In addition, the Band 5 will be expected to have previous experience as an Assistant Psychologist and will learn to administer neuro-psychological tests.


You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to make timely and accurate diagnoses and to provide post diagnostic support.

You must have a good degree in psychology (2:1 or above) and be eligible for the BPS Graduate Basis for Chartership.

You must have the ability to think flexibly, be responsive and work under supervision, and have an interest in service development and quality improvement for older people with mental health difficulties, cognitive impairments and/or long-term physical health conditions.

NHS experience and a master's degree are an advantage.

Probationary Period

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata).


The post will provide opportunities for developing skills in psychology assessment and intervention, in addition to providing support for service development initiatives relevant to psychology services for older people and the work of the multi-disciplinary Frailty Community of Practice.

Current initiative includes development of services for people with dementia and challenging behaviour; dementia awareness and training for staff and carers; dementia friendly environments; and working towards age equity in psychology services.


The site is close to the amenities and transport links at Stratford City Hub with both overground and underground links within a short walking distance of the office.
