The Finance Compliance Officer opportunity is a full time 6-month fixed term contract role based within our Finance team.

This role is suitable for you if you're familiar with the legal sector, maybe you've worked as a legal cashier, legal secretary or understand client accounts and SRA Account rules.

You will work closely with the Finance Compliance Team, to ensure that systems and controls are in place that enables the firm, its managers, and employees to comply with their obligations under the SRA Accounts Rules.

Day to day, you'll be successful in this role by:
Reporting to the Finance Compliance and Payments Manager, the Finance Compliance Administrator will:

  • Review matter balances using the Firm's Practice Management System (3e) and Document Management System (DMS) to ensure they are compliant with the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR). This will involve liaising with Finance and Matter Billing Timekeepers, to ensure the funds are correctly held, annual Client Letters are sent and recorded, and Matter Narratives are kept up to date for audit purposes.
  • On a prescribed basis, perform internal audits of case matter files to ensure compliance against the SAR. This will include reviewing all transactions and any relevant documentation.
  • Report any identified Breaches of the SAR, working independently and alongside the Cashiers Team, to the Finance Compliance and Payments Manager, and COFA as appropriate.
  • Assist the Finance Compliance and Payments Manager with regular duties such as maintaining the firms SAR Breach Register, tracing former Clients to return residual balances, and supporting the annual SAR audit.
  • Support the Finance Compliance and Payments Manager and COFA with reporting on SAR topics as required.

This role is right for you if:

  • You have a minimum of 6 GCSE passes at grade C or above (or equivalent), including English and Maths.
The skills, abilities, knowledge and experience you will need:

  • Previous experience of working in a compliance role / risk management.
  • Knowledge of the 'Solicitors Accounts Rules' and AML a strong advantage.
  • Audit experience is preferable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise with Partners, fee earners and support staff.
  • Strong I.T. Skills, including Excel, Word, and Outlook,
  • Strong time management skills and excellent attention to detail.
