The Children's Occupational Therapy team, based at the Great North Children's Hospital, have a vacancy for a motivated Occupational Therapy assistant to become part of our innovative and dedicated team of therapists.

This is a role that requires spontaneity, flexibility and creativity as well as good time management and communication skills. It is a fantastically rewarding role and open to individuals committed to supporting children and their families.

Applicants ideally will have previous experience working with children and young people and have an understanding children's development.

An awareness of the role of the Occupational Therapist and the importance of participation in meaning activity, such as self-care and play, is preferred.


The role will work as part of the Occupational therapy team, supporting the implementation of treatment plans, facilitating developmental activities as well as supporting with equipment ordering and provision.

  • 30 Hours/Week


This role will require the individual to maintain an inventory of specialist children's equipment, undertake responsibility for cleaning equipment and ensuring that the infection control standards are adhered to.


Applicants are required to have good written and verbal communication skills as record keeping and providing up to date accurate information is an essential part of the role.

  • To work alongside and under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist to provide both direct and indirect patient care.
  • To carry a caseload delegated by the Occupational Therapist who has carried out an initial assessment.
