About the role

The Lead Capability Partner leads an agile team of capability partners, working closely with leadership and other capability leads to set and drive forward the overall strategic direction for capability, that equips all colleagues to deliver our core purpose demonstrating the right skills, behaviours and values.

Driving an improved learner experience and embedding it within the end to end colleague experience.


Your decision making will be data led and you'll balance strategy, strong stakeholder management and governance with great people management and creativity.

You'll be a strong team leader with the ability to manage and build a new team, influence and engage with a wide, complex stakeholder group across the whole business.

You'll work hard to break down siloes and champion evolved ways of working. You will also be responsible for partnering a business function.

You will be responsible for

  • Accountable for setting the overall strategic direction for technical capability plan within the functions, working closely with the other leads to define the colleague, manager and leaders proposition for both the what and the how and ensure this is seamlessly delivered to the business.
  • Lead and inspire a team of agile capability partners to build and curate leading edge technical learning solutions for the group, raising the bar on capability and ensuring leading edge solutions that deliver for both now and the future.
  • Accountable for ensuring the capability partners maintain any safe and legal training specific to the function(s) and that the teams work seamlessly with TBS to deliver this work.
  • Partners senior stakeholders (WL5) to develop and influence strategic direction for functional learning for both the what and the how from a Group perspective.
  • Champion the core learning offer for colleagues, managers and leaders, influencing the business to adopt the core offer and ensure a seamless learning experience for all colleagues within their function(s).
  • Balance the needs of the functions with the needs of the Group capability team, ensuring you always champion the Group PoE approach whilst influencing and liaising with the business to meet their needs.
  • You live 20/80, ensuring all function(s) follow all governance processes and ruthlessly prioritises work in line with the group capability's plans and priorities. You take a costconscious approach to all budgetary decisions, sharing accountably on budget decisions and ensuring we follow group capability budgeting priorities within the work we deliver in functions.
  • You are the face of our new operating model and hold the business to account, ensuring we remove duplication and drive learner consistency. You work collaboratively and supportively with TBS, breaking down silos and building capability to strive to build one global team.
  • You contribute to establishing a world class Group PoE within capability, continuously striving to bring outside
- in thinking and are passionate about ensuring the learner experience is at the heart of what you do.

  • Owning and leading the Group functional capability strategy inc. Learning Tech experience and governance for your assigned function(s). Build relationships and work closely with capability teams in other parts of the group to remove duplication and drive consistency.
  • Navigate and influence a variety of stakeholders to gain buy in and sponsorship for your functional capability plan.
  • Meeting our strategic priorities by focusing on future skills, behaviours and values required of our colleagues
  • Working with the Capability Leads & partners to undertake a learning needs analysis to identify the immediate and long term gaps and priorities.
  • Work with TBS to develop the right blend of solutions that help our colleagues and managers to build their ability to selfserve on learning
  • Influencing the colleague/manager development agenda across Tesco and build effective partnerships with stakeholders across the business
  • Championing and role modelling our Win Together behaviours, contributing to a cultural change programme across the Tesco group & actively driving a culture of learning.
  • Reporting on the programme management of all centrally managed development programmes ensuring they're delivered within agreed timescales and budget
  • Acting as an SME for people and capability whilst actively balancing the needs of Tesco and our colleagues, ensuring colleagues are safe and skilled in their work whilst ensuring alignment to Tesco's overall business strategy.
  • Ensure we strive for a learner lead, simple and accessible group capability offer that is data led and supports our strategic priorities
  • Work seamlessly across the people operating model and wider capability PoE (UK, Group & TBS) to respond to the changing needs of the business in an agile manner whilst always keeping the learner experience at the heart of everything we do.
