NHS Wales - Trainee Clinical Scientists - Clinical Microbiology

Exciting opportunities to use your engineering degree for patient and public benefit

Gain a masters degree and specialist work-based experience through a nationally recognised training programme

Starting salary will be on the first point of Band 6 on a 3-year fixed-term contract.


The NHS in Wales is offering1salaried post-graduate training programmes inClinical Microbiologyfor high-calibre science graduates who are passionate about science and its role in patient care.


The STP with us offers you a number of advantages including:

  • Teaching and mentoring from national and international experts
  • Placements in general microbiology, national units and UK reference units
  • Exposure to novel services including Pathogen Genomics, rapid molecular diagnostics and specialist bioinformatics.


Placements will include locations across South Wales and you will have the opportunity to travel to other parts of the network.

Trainees maybe requiredto rotate through other areas which will involve secondments atother locations. On completion of training, prospects for permanent employment withinWales are excellent. For individuals with aptitude and commitment there are opportunities toprogress through the career pathway to Consultant Clinical Scientist. This is an excellentopportunityfor individuals whoaremotivatedtopursuetheircareerwithinWales.

The training is aligned with the Scientific Training Programme (STP) and supported by the National School of Healthcare Science.
