Job summary:

Within the Planning Inspectorate a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Digital Skills Trainer to join the team. This is a great time to join our growing, friendly, and collaborative Digital & Data Service team.

The team are responsible for creating and delivering digital training to colleagues and stakeholders to help to ensure that digital skills are embedded throughout in the Planning Inspectorate.

Job description:


We are looking for customer focused individual who is a good team player, highly organised, able to exercise judgement and deliver a quality service in an effective and efficient way.


You will be energetic and motivated with good communication and problem-solving skills, alongside an ability to build excellent relationships with stakeholders in the business.


  • Working closely with business areas to promote best practice for use of digital systems (e.g., casework system, Office 365).
  • Delivering virtual and face to face training courses e. New intake onboarding.
  • Design, create and manage training materials including guides, advice notes and eLearning materials.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders and senior leaders to ensure the Digital Training Service meets the organisation's strategy.
  • Provide adhoc/refresher training support to users online and in person as well as regular, targeted training sessions as needed.


The role will also play a key-part in engaging with users to gain an understanding of user knowledge, skills and behaviours to gain the best understanding of the digital training requirements.

Person specification:


Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrable experience working in a training
  • Experience of designing, creating and managing training materials including guides, advice notes and eLearning materials.
  • Experience of delivering training with the confidence to present and deliver information to large groups of people
  • Understand users, their needs and ways of working, in order to design, develop and deliver engaged and informative training.
  • Customer focused and commercially aware to deliver outstanding results.
  • Great attention to detail with excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication and presenting skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Completion of 'Train the Trainer' course or equivalent
  • Experience in project planning and management.
  • Relevant professional qualification at foundation level (e.g., CIPD or TAP) or willingness to study for a qualification
  • Experience of using Training video software (Camtasia/Articulate 360).
