Job Purpose

The College of Social Sciences Student Experience Team (SET) is seeking a creative individual to take the lead in promoting SET provision and activity, communicating with a diverse audience of both students and staff, and enhancing our engagement with stakeholders across the College, and beyond.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To lead on the effective communication and promotion of SET provision and activities, with direction from SET Strand Leads (Student Learning, Student Skills, and Student Transitions).
  • To develop a SET communications and engagement strategy, including development of an annual cycle of activity.
  • To create a range of informative and engaging promotional materials for SET, utilising initiative, expertise, data insights, and feedback to ensure maximum impact and reach.
  • To develop and maintain SET webpages, social media accounts, and other communications channels, including embedded Moodle/VLE comms.
  • To work in partnership with SET Strand Leads, SET Skills Programme Coordinator, and SET Transitions Coordinator (new post) to evaluate SET provision with a view to enhancing engagement, and increasing student participation and staff partnerships.
  • To support the development of targeted promotion of/pathways through SET provision in line with the student journey e.g. tailoring communications to student cohorts at different stages of their studies.
  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with key academic, communications, engagement, and student experience colleagues across the College to ensure effective communication and partnership.
  • To facilitate effective student partnership in ongoing development of SET activity, including working with elected student representatives and coordinating student feedback activity in partnership with SET Skills Programme Coordinator.
  • To line manage a small team of student digital communications interns.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

A1 SCQF Level 9, Degree, VQ level 4 or equivalent or postgraduate/professional qualification with relevant formal training OR the ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this role through experience in a similar position.

A2 A proven record of development and delivery of communication and engagement strategies, in line with broader organisational strategies, aims, and objectives.


Desirable
B1 An understanding of issues relating to the delivery of a quality student experience, including barriers to engagement and participation

B2 An understanding of issues relating to student transitions, employability and skills development, and student learning within UK higher education.

B3 A knowledge of the functionalities of Virtual Learning Environments [VLE], including Moodle, and other relevant online learning platforms.


Skills

Essential

C1 Excellent writing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with different audiences, from print to online and social media.

C2 Excellent and confident oral communicator, including presentation and group facilitation skills.
C4 Strong attention to detail with an ability to carefully proofread own work.
C5 Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

C6 Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders including other professional services colleagues, academic colleagues, and students.

C7 Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan and complete work with mínimal supervision and to agreed deadlines.
C8 Ability to work proactively and to use initiative and judgement.


Desirable
D1 Project management skills.
D2 Experience of designing and conducting user experience research.


Experience

Essential
E1 Track record of success in a similar role.

E2 Track record of adapting communication and engagement approaches to meet the needs of different audiences, including balancing competing priorities of different stakeholder groups.

E3 Proven track record of managing digital media channels (including web and social media) and of designing and delivering marketing materials.


Desirable
F1 Supervisory/line management experience.

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £30,502 - £34,308 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open-ended.
