Description

This is an exciting time to be joining Birmingham Hippodrome as part of our newly established Risk & Compliance Department who oversee all operational risk management activities for the organisation.

Areas under our remit include Health & Safety, Food Safety, Licensing, the Environment, Security and Counter Terrorism.

This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape and support the safety culture at a high-footfall arts venue that reaches over one million people a year through our on and off stage programmes of work.

We are seeking a qualified individual who is passionate about ensuring the safety and well-being of our audiences, staff and performers, and excited at the prospect of working in a fast-paced entertainment venue.

You will work closely with the Head of Risk & Compliance, taking responsibility for operational matters relating to Health & Safety.

You will enjoy getting involved in a variety of tasks and will act as point of contact, providing competent support and advice to Hippodrome staff from across all teams ranging from Technical and Visitor Services to Learning & Participation and Facilities.

If successful you'll be offered a contract which may include very occasional weekend and late night working. This role also benefits from the possibility of some hybrid working in line with business needs.

As Health & Safety Advisor, you will ensure we meet legal requirements as well as encourage an environment where colleagues understand the safety aims and objectives of the wider organisation and are clear about their own responsibilities.

We will look to you to keep current with relevant health and safety legislation and best practice and update our systems and processes as required.

You will monitor compliance by department and communicate remedial actions as appropriate too.

You will also oversee a programme of internal monitoring and auditing of all Health, Safety and Compliance obligations, provide associated noncompliance reports, as well as identify opportunities for HSE improvements.

Critically, you will manage the ISO45001 Health and Safety Integrated Management and ISO14001 Environmental Management systems, ensuring effective operation across all departments.

Important will be the ability to develop colleague HSE training and liaise with external bodies such as local authorities and specialist groups on health and safety and environmental issues.
