One of our Civil Engineering clients are currently looking to recruit a Sustainability Manager to work on their highways and infrastructure projects in the West of England.

As the Sustainability Manager you will be joining a dynamic and award winning team within a business that puts the environment and sustainability at the heart of what they do as part of a Safer and Greener Highways business plan.

Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Ensure contracts and operational activities go above and beyond their Environmental Management System and legislative compliance requirements
You will lead, grow and develop a team of environmental managers and advisors across a geographical area of the business
Liaise with and report to the relevant Operations and Business Directors for Highways, Street lighting and Projects to provide strategic environmental support for their contracts
Lead on and deliver the requirements of the Environment and Carbon strategies within your portfolio of project
Act as the lead for the environment team (shared with other Sustainability Managers) in business areas such as innovation, digitisation and training etc.
Be the environment lead for work winning and mobilisation of new contracts within your geographical area of the business
Proactively engage clients to deliver environmental work within existing projects
Work collaboratively with other functions within the business to ensure best value is provided for the business and clients
Ensure the business is represented in awards submissions, external communications and industry events for environmental and sustainability initiatives

Skills & Knowledge Requirements:

Extensive construction industry experience or relevant environmental experience in a similar sector
Experience of managing diverse teams of environmental specialists on construction projects
You will be a leader who is able to motivate and inspire their team
Experience working with senior leadership teams, effective at engaging operational leadership teams to deliver environmental improvements
Experience in business development and work winning
Demonstrable passion for the Environment and Sustainability, driving innovation and an ability and desire to positively influence and develop those around them
Strong organisational and project management skills
Good communicator and proven experience of improving the environmental culture of an organisation
Degree level in appropriate Environmental discipline
Professional membership of IEMA (or equivalent) at the appropriate level
