One of our Civil Engineering clients are currently looking to recruit a Sustainability Manager to work on their highways and infrastructure projects in the West of England.


As the Sustainability Manager you will be joining a dynamic and award winning team within a business that puts the environment and sustainability at the heart of what they do as part of a Safer and Greener Highways business plan.


Duties & Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure contracts and operational activities go above and beyond their Environmental Management System and legislative compliance requirements
  • You will lead, grow and develop a team of environmental managers and advisors across a geographical area of the business
  • Liaise with and report to the relevant Operations and Business Directors for Highways, Street lighting and Projects to provide strategic environmental support for their contracts
  • Lead on and deliver the requirements of the Environment and Carbon strategies within your portfolio of project
  • Act as the lead for the environment team (shared with other Sustainability Managers) in business areas such as innovation, digitisation and training etc.
  • Be the environment lead for work winning and mobilisation of new contracts within your geographical area of the business
  • Proactively engage clients to deliver environmental work within existing projects
  • Work collaboratively with other functions within the business to ensure best value is provided for the business and clients
  • Ensure the business is represented in awards submissions, external communications and industry events for environmental and sustainability initiatives

Skills & Knowledge Requirements:

  • Extensive construction industry experience or relevant environmental experience in a similar sector
  • Experience of managing diverse teams of environmental specialists on construction projects
  • You will be a leader who is able to motivate and inspire their team
  • Experience working with senior leadership teams, effective at engaging operational leadership teams to deliver environmental improvements
  • Experience in business development and work winning
  • Demonstrable passion for the Environment and Sustainability, driving innovation and an ability and desire to positively influence and develop those around them
  • Strong organisational and project management skills
  • Good communicator and proven experience of improving the environmental culture of an organisation
  • Degree level in appropriate Environmental discipline
  • Professional membership of IEMA (or equivalent) at the appropriate level
