Reporting Line Service Manager - Health.

Hours/Contract 37.5 hours per week - Permanent

Location Carers' Support East Kent, Innovation House, Discovery Park, Ramsgate Road, Sandwich, Kent. CT13 9ND


Hybrid working role - This role is predominantly based at home with a requirement to attend/work from the office for up to 2 days per week.

Our offices are currently based in Sandwich, Kent. This role requires regular travel across East Kent including visiting the 3 hospitals in Kent. QEQM, Kent and Canterbury and William Harvey.

Salary £27,800 per annum

Carers' Support East Kent is a charity that provides Carers with the information and support they need.

Our services are available to people looking after a relative or friend, who due to physical or mental illness, age related difficulties, disability or an addiction, cannot manage without their support.

Caring can be rewarding but also challenging. Each situation is different, but we know that caring brings practical, physical and emotional challenges.

We care about the health and well-being of Carers and provide information, support and signposting/referral to services to help with those challenges.


About the role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader - Health role to join our Team.

In this role you will help with the first line management of our excellent team of Carer Support Coordinators and administrator who work alongside the hospital discharge team in the East Kent Hospitals.


We are the leading provider of information and support to people who look after a family member/friend (Carers) across East Kent.

We help people find the right support to meet their individual needs. (We do not provide personal care services). Our service is free at the point of delivery, funded by Kent County Council.

The focus is on delivering a high-quality outcome focused service for our Carers.

The role will require you to develop positive relationships with staff and key stakeholders such as team members employed by the Hospital and working in the discharge team.


Key Responsibilities include:


  • First point of contact to the Hospital Carer Support team; providing information, support and guidance to queries or problems in relation to individual cases within the hospital setting
  • Escalate issues or concerns to the Service Manager that have been raised from the Integrated Discharge Team or Carers within the hospital setting that are unable to be resolved at a local level
  • Support the Service Manager in the implementation of operational change, revised practice, processes and reporting systems to facilitate continual improvement of the Carers Hospital Service
  • Support and manage Hospital Carer Support team members to deliver organisational goals and objectives
  • Undertake first line management responsibilities including Reviews and PDR's.
  • Ensure the Carers Hospital Service is resourced by the presence of a Hospital Carer Support Coordinator or with support from wider team, liaising with the Services Manager.
  • Ensure Integrated Discharge Team Manager(s) are notified of any absences/changes that affect the service.
  • Provide examples of impact of support to Carers using case studies and evaluation tools
  • Contribute to Carers newsletters and promotional materials as required

To be successful you will have:

  • Experience of managing, supporting and motivating a small team, completing inductions, appraisals and regular reviews and contributing to service improvement ideas, whilst working to KPI's.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and written skills.
  • Experience of the health and social care sector in a hospital setting is not essential for this role, but experience of working in a health related role and managing a team will be.
