Description

Applications are invited for the role of Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Translational Neurooncology to work in the Hamerlik lab in Manchester.

Despite a significant number of prospective clinical trials over the past four decades for primary brain tumours and brain metastases, there has been little improvement in patient outcome.

Since the risk of recurrence and mortality are closely related to disease stage at the time of primary intervention, late diagnosis is among the key factors contributing to the poor outcome of brain cancer patients.

In order to advance brain cancer therapy, we seek to achieve multi-omics profiling of tumour samples, and clinical outcome and therefore we are looking for a PDRA with a focus on molecular biology studies, target identification & validation using clinically relevant patient-derived models of brain cancer.

The successful applicant will have their PhD in biology and must have relevant laboratory experience in molecular, cellular and tumour biology.

They should have demonstrable experience in defining and solving their own research questions as they will be expected to take a lead in planning and organising study activities, supported by the Principal Investigator.

There will be opportunities to lead and contribute to publications and present findings at national conferences.

The post holder will be based at the Paterson Research Building in Manchester.

The role will be highly collaborative; it will involve working with a multidisciplinary team composed of biologist, clinicians and bioinformaticians.

The project is supported by the Brain Tumour Charity and will be supervised by Professor Petra Hamerlik, Chair of Translational Neuro-Oncology at the University of Manchester.
