Calbee Group UK is part of a c.$3billion turnover, global, Japanese owned, crisps, snacks, and cereal manufacturing business.


Seabrook Crisps is their best-known brand in the UK, of which Calbee acquired in 2018 and duly made the Seabrook site in Bradford Calbee's UK Head Office.

Along with Seabrook Crisps, Calbee UK also manufactures and sells the Harvest Snaps 'better for you' snacking brand and the new Seabrook Loaded snacks range.

There are both manufactured at a second site based in Deeside, North Wales.

With Group backing and the stability of an established management team, growth is the main agenda. We are now looking to strengthen the team within our Preparation Department.

An opportunity has arisen to join the Seabrooks Crisps (Bradford) Preparation Department as a Team Leader.

The main focus of this role will be to ensure that the department is producing products in line with the agreed production plan.

You will continuously monitor raw materials, all operational processes, and the overall production environment to ensure that all activities comply with food safety and good manufacturing standards.


What will I do in this role?

  • Manage, motivate, and train your team to perform at their best.
  • Take ownership for the training and development of your team including standard operating procedures, equipment usage and quality and hygiene processes.
  • Manage the resource plan to ensure there are adequate staffing levels on shift to fulfil the requirements of the production plan safely, with minimum waste and to quality standards.
  • Monitor the delivery of potatoes and oil into the factory ensuring they are in line with safety and quality standards and escalate any quality issues as necessary.
  • Take responsible for Starch throughput on shift.
  • Ensure that all plant and equipment is operating effectively, and any defects or damage are resolved with the support of the Engineering Team to minimise any downtime.
  • Complete the relevant production paperwork accurately and as per schedule e.g., placement sheet, downtime sheet, hygiene sheet etc.
  • Understand and ensure compliance to the company quality policy, taking ownership of the resolution of any issues and closing out of Non-Conformances in your area.
  • Ensure that the factory is always 'audit ready' and support during audits on site.
  • Maintain and set good housekeeping standards whilst on shift.
  • Attend production meetings as required.
  • Promote the health and safety of yourself and others and proactively address any health and safety concerns.

What skills and experience will I need in this role?

  • Demonstrate supervisory experience from within either a Food Manufacturing or FMCG business.
  • Food Hygiene NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 of equivalent, with Allergen Awareness qualifications being an advantage.
  • Potato processing/Frying Courses would be a distinct advantage.
  • A positive attitude and the willingness to champion best practice throughout the department.
  • Good communication skills and a desire to build cross functional relationships and work as one team.
  • Knowledge of quality systems including HACCP and corrective and preventative actions.
  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety within a factory environment including hazard awareness and knowledge of risk control measures, whilst an IOSH Managing Safely qualification would be an advantage.
  • Able to effectively prioritise workload to meet the needs of the department.
  • Able to give clear instruction and engage/communicate with people in positions above and below including reporting and presenting of information.
  • Be aware of your impact on others and work collaboratively whilst striving to treat everyone fairly and with integrity.
  • This is a physical role that will involve you changing slicer heads and performing heavy lifting so you will need a good level of fitness for this position.

What are we offering?


You will work a 4 on 4 off shift pattern that will rotate with one week of Days (06:00 - 18:00) followed by one week of Nights (18:00 - 06:00).

The current rate of pay for this role is £15.49 per hour, enhanced rates of pay are applied for night shift and for overtime at a weekend.
