Events Officer - Cornwall, United Kingdom - Mission Rabies
2 weeks ago
Description
Event Officer
This exciting role will be responsible for leading on a new corporate fundraising event, to raise vital funds for international charity, Mission Rabies.
The inaugural event will take place in Cornwall and is in the preparation phase for the first year, with plans to evolve and grow into an annual event in the future.
This role is part time, and initially a 1-year fixed-term contract, with potential to develop into a longer-term role supporting other events at Mission Rabies.
About Us
Over 99% of human rabies cases are caused by an infected dog bite. Once symptoms of the disease develop, it is fatal.
Every year, millions of healthy dogs are inhumanely killed for fear of this deadly disease.
However, this does nothing to stop the spread of rabies, which still kills around 59,000 people every year - the majority of whom are children under 15.
Mission Rabies is changing that.
Science shows that the most effective long-term rabies control strategy is through vaccination of dogs in endemic areas, so we head to rabies hotspots and run mass vaccination and education programmes - protecting both the human and canine populations.
Human deaths from rabies have been eliminated at our original project sites and we're determined to keep going until that figure is zero all around the world.
Mission Rabies follow World Health Organization guidelines to run mass canine vaccination programmes in countries like Cambodia, Ghana, India, Malawi, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, and Uganda.
To date we have vaccinated over 2,000,000 dogs and educated over 5,000,000 children to protect them against the danger of rabies.
