  • We are seeking a Data & Evidence Officer Grade 4 for a 12 month Temp Contract to cover Maternity leave.
Being resilient to climate change and limiting the impacts of future flooding to people, infrastructure and environment is our challenge in the coming years

This is an outward-facing role, we manage projects, programmes and customer requests for our information and need to deal with them promptly, accurately and consistently.

As an Officer G4 in the Partnerships and Strategic Overview Team (PSO), you will play a key part in the delivery of our objectives


Reporting to the PSO:

Data & Evidence Team Leader, you will fulfil a multi-purpose role delivering some of the teams' core data management and analyses work.


The key activities are:

  • Review Flood Map information: Responded to Flood Map questions \ queries.
  • Maintain and Improve our Historic Flood Map.
  • Flood Map update process
  • Provide Area input in to Flood Map Projects
  • Data Improvements: Constantly seeking improvements and efficiencies.
  • Data Updates: managing the process of periodic planned updates ensure data \ metadata is fit for purpose.
  • Records Management: Ensuring that we capture, use, retain and share our data in accordance with legislation, policy and standards.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

  • The team
  • The Wessex PSO Data and Evidence Team cover the Bristol, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch areas.
We lead on the production Flood Maps and associated data sets that we use to communicate the Flood risk. We use a wide range of skills to help us plan for the future.

They include the analysis of data to inform future investment plans, engagement with communities and partners, developing strategic approaches to future flood risk management.


  • Experience/skills required
  • You will be a confident communicator, with excellent customer service skills, working with internal, external partners and members of the public. Your enthusiasm, ambition and good organisational skills will help you to achieve defined deadlines and targets.

As a temporary contract, we welcome all backgrounds, preferably with an interest in geography, engineering, science, or customer related field.


It is essential that you have:

  • GIS skills, ideally with ArcGIS,
  • Understanding of river processes, hydrology and the impact of flooding
  • Good excel skills
  • Ability to develop/maintain good customer relationships
  • Delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information
  • Work on your own initiative and as part of a team
  • Managing multiple priorities and competing demands.

It would be desirable to have:

  • Experience of project development
  • Evidence based modelling
A combination of formal qualifications and some experience through to no formal qualification and substantial experience is acceptable.
