Using conventional business metrics, the University is a large enterprise with an annual turnover of over £500m and a staff establishment in excess of 5,000 FTE.

The Corporate Governance team is a long-established function within the Governance, Legal and Strategy Implementation Directorate, with a remit to support central, high-level decision-making bodies which include the University Governing Body, the Senate and a range of executive Committees, Panels and Groups.

The team provides professional administration to these governance bodies ensuring that they function smoothly and effectively.

We now have an exciting opportunity to join the team in the role of Governance Officer.

The role will work together with the Clerk to the University Council and Senate, and the wider team, to support both a specific portfolio of committees and the broader work of the team.

As a member of the team, you will need a proven track record in supporting professional governance meetings with skills in meeting preparation, agenda compilation, report and minute writing and the ability to build strong, productive relationships with a diverse stakeholder group - including University governors, members of the Senate, Senior Executives, academic and research staff, heads of the University's professional services functions and key external suppliers and partners.

You should have previous experience of working in a committee, democratic support or governance environment either from the private, public or charity sector.

Working at the University of Southampton gives you access to a wide range of benefits in addition to our competitive rates of pay.
