Key Responsibilities
In your role as Compliance and Legal Administrator you will be required to carry out the following:
In addition to offering general support to the members of the Legal and Compliance team, the key tasks and responsibilities of the role are:

  • Responsible for the compliance monitoring of new and existing clients
  • using Worldcheck, our third-party screening provider and publicly available information, for example, company registries, press coverage and internet searches
  • Point of contact for all enquiries to Legal/Compliance, chasing down responses to queries, answering or referring on questions from Specialist Departments
  • Point of contact for Client Services re compliance/legal requirements
  • Review of certain sales to identify any potential issues and queries (e.g., new clients, companies, beneficial ownership, Trusts, Estates), Red flag jurisdictions, CITES, import/export, sensitive items, provenance concerns
  • Responsible for checking/updating the Bonhams client system re status of cleared clients
  • Identifying and developing changes to processes to streamline client onboarding
  • Develop responsibility for the continuing training of junior employees
  • Liaison with Finance regarding budgets/invoices

Key Skills and Experience

  • Ability to plan and organise workload to meet required targets and deadlines.
  • Fast, accurate computer skills including solid knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Independent and selfmotivated
  • Genuine interest in Legal and Compliance matters within the context of an auction house
  • Good, clear and appropriate written and spoken communication
  • French and/or Mandarin an advantage but not essential
