An opportunity has arisen for a 12 month fixed term period to join a well established team.

The post holder will work directly alongside the perinatal mental health specialist midwife in a support role.

The post holder will be available in the clinical area to support with perinatal mental health concerns, whilst caring for women and liaising with the multidisciplinary team to encourage seamless care and positive outcomes for women and their families.


  • As a midwife working with women and families with mild to moderate, and moderate to severe, mental health illness this role is to support Perinatal Health Midwives.
  • Provide high quality, evidencebased care and advice to women and families
  • Work in partnership with other health care professionals and liaise with other agencies involved in the provisions of maternity services and seek advice from the Mental Health Specialist midwife as required.
  • Where children's safeguarding is involved ensure that the interest and wellbeing of babies is protected, whilst continuing to provide womencentred, compassionate care and act as anadvocate for mothers.

  • In conjunction with the Mental Health Lead Midwife work closely with Perinatal Mental Health Teams in care planning and assessment of women and families where there are mental health concerns.
  • Work closely with community and charitable agencies and ensure that women and families are linked into additional support at the earliest opportunity.
  • Engage in other public health initiatives and projects especially in relation to improving outcomes for women and families with mental health concerns.
  • Contribute to prebirth planning, Multidisciplinary Team meetings and case
conferences as required, ensuring effective sharing of information.

  • Attend the monthly internal Psychosocial meetings to support the mental health leads.
  • Ensure that robust prebirth/discharge planning and plan is in place with the supportof the safeguarding and mental health leads.
  • Attend Postnatal Discharge planning meetings on the postnatal ward for any cases with social care involvement.
  • Support staff on the inpatient wards with mental health cases.
  • Ensure robust information sharing and care planning with primary care teams.
  • Liaise appropriately with services to ensure safe and effective care is provided to women.
  • Act as a care navigator to ensure timely access to appropriate pathways and robust information sharing and handover has been completed.
