An exciting opportunity has risen for a
Calf Rearer to join our Dairy unit in
Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

Our Farm
We are a family-owned farm, who have been milking and caring for dairy cows for over 3 generations. The dairy herd consists of 106 milking cows plus replacement heifers and some beef animals. approx 300 head of cattle, Cows and heifers calved all year round with slight autumn bias.

Cows milked on 2 Lely A4s, high output system with cows averaging 14,500L, excellent milk quality, fertility and health standards.

Full vaccination program, routine vet and foot trimmer visits to maintain high welfare standards. All data & records are kept using Uniform, Herdwatch and Lely Horizon software. Our milk is supplied to Muller Co-Op, The Farmer owners have been recognised within the industry.

Cream Awards - Youngstock and Calf Health - Highly Commended 2023 & High Production - Commended 2023, Although not pedigree, the cows themselves have also been recognised for their performance and type winning various awards and trophies


Your Role
Working within our team, you'll be responsible for

  • The development and care of all our calves.
  • You'll be feeding, dehorning, treating the animals with antibiotics when required.
  • You'll also be record keeping and ensuring all computer records are maintained.
  • Vaccinating and weighing the calves.
  • Working with our vet at routine Lung scanning visits to help monitor the health and performance of our youngstock.
  • Ensuring the farm is kept tidy & safe to operate. Cleaning milk feeding equipment and mucking out calf pens
  • Reporting any observations to the senior team

You
You'll be a positive and easy going person, with a high attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

You'll have some experience working with calves, a keen eye for prevention and early detection of calf health issues and have a passion for the welfare and development of our calves.

Above all, you'll be a self-starter who is keen to continue to develop your skills and are ready to play your part in our busy team.

There is also an opportunity for you to develop your skills and progress into a more senior position.

You will need to demonstrate a great understanding of the calving and calf rearing process and have a passion for calves.
