Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer

Heanor - Derbyshire

Hybrid working (2 days in the office and 3 days working from home)

£28k to £29k + Excellent overtime and great benefits package

The Company

As a world leading engineering company with a proven track record in providing advanced engineered solutions to the Aerospace, Energy, Marine and Nuclear Sectors, my client has a history and pedigree that spans more than a century.

Due to a period of significant growth, they are now looking to build their already impressive design team with the addition of a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer.


The Role
Based at their impressive Heanor facility you'll be designing a range of bespoke products based on project needs and the solving of client's technical requirements for each project


This includes:

  • The creation and preparation of mechanical designs based on a specific set of project criteria
  • Providing engineering calculations and detailed designs to be applied to the acoustic, dynamic, mechanical, and thermofluid needs of each project
  • Creating sketch drawings and detailed designs to be carried through to manufacturing and production
  • Undertaking training to develop your skills and adding value to the company
  • Utilising a range of design and IT software (SolidWorks, Mathcad, PDM, PLM, and the usual Microsoft suite of programs)
  • Participating in R&D activities
  • Interpreting historical designs to suit a new purpose
  • Working closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Identifying risks and implementing solutions to reduce these hazards and risks

The Person
You'll obviously need certain things in your locker to be considered, which includes:

  • Solid real-world experience within design (structural steelwork/ sheet metal / large enclosures / welded fabrications etc.)
  • Good abilities within a recognised 3D CAD package (ideally SolidWorks but other, similar packages will be considered)
  • Relevant vocational qualifications
  • An ability to design around the mechanical, acoustic, dynamic, and thermofluid needs of each project
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacture
  • Experience of assisting with site surveys
  • Good time management and ability to achieve project milestones
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a diverse workforce to solve daytoday issues
  • A full UK driving licence
