We have an exciting opportunity for a Labour Ward Co-ordinator to join our existing team on the Hinchingbrooke Hospital Site.

As a Midwife Co-ordinator you will be responsible for the day to day co-ordination of the activity on the labour ward.

The Labour Ward consists of 11 rooms including 4 on our midwifery led birthing unit plus 1 pool room. In addition we have a 2 bedded recovery room and a self contained bereavement suite.


Your role as a Labour Ward Coordinator is to help ensure the safe, efficient and effective day to day running of Labour Ward.

Working closely with the Labour Ward Manager and Acute Service Lead Midwife.

  • To manage the shift and have clinical responsibility for the area.
  • To provide clinical midwifery care to women within the Maternity Services.
  • To provide expert leadership advice to the maternity team
  • To be proactive in the development of midwifery within the Maternity Unit.
  • To manage/lead a team of staff within maternity service.

Key Responsibilities:


The practitioner is expected to ensure that their own clinical practice, and that of the other staff on each shift, within the area of practice is of a safe standard and in accordance with the unit policies.


To assess, implement and evaluate programmes of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for women in line with current evidence, Unit policies and guidelines and NMC Midwives' Rules and Code of Practice.

To develop an environment which supports the value of midwifery care.
