To assist the Sister / Charge Nurse in ensuring a clean and tidy, safe and comfortable ward environment for patients.

To work with all staff, patients and members of the public to achieve high standards of infection control. Working with nursing staff to ensure patients receive food and beverages according to their needs.

House Keeper, Emergency Department


Are you enthusiastic and motivated with a kind and compassionate attitude? We are looking for a person who has experience working in an acute clinical setting to join our ED team at St George's Hospital.


We are looking for persons with a strong drive and enthusiasm to be part of an acute service, working alongside colleagues to deliver the best possible care to our patients.

You will join a hard-working, skilled, friendly & diverse team who strive to provide excellent emergency care.


You will work alongside and be supported by a variety of roles & colleagues and be a fundamental part of the team.

You must be responsive to the changing demands and priorities in the unit and show a willingness to drive the service forward.

WARD ENVIRONMENT & INFECTION CONTROL

  • To work closely with the Sister / Charge Nurse, domestic supervisor and domestic operatives to ensure high standards of cleanliness within the ward area. Inform the Sister / Charge Nurse of any problems.
  • To ensure all areas within the ward are kept tidy and free from clutter.
  • To ensure cubicle areas are kept clean and tidy at all times and that with nursing team, trolleys, tables and beds are cleaned thoroughly in between admissions.
  • To ensure bed curtains are clean and appropriate to ensure the privacy and dignity of the patient.
  • To log all repairs required with Estates & Facilities and monitor for completion. Inform Nurse in Charge of any repair works that have been reported. Keep accurate records of all requisitions, job completion and outcome.
  • To participate in regular Quality Control checks of the ward cleaning as requested by the Matron.
  • To monitor and manage the storage of patient belongings and valuables.
CUSTOMER CARE & COMMUNICATION

  • To communicate with patients, visitors and staff in a polite and courteous manner at all times.
  • To liaise effectively with all members of clinical and non clinical staff to ensure continuity of patient care
  • Assist in familiarising patients and relatives to the ward environment
  • To ensure patient's privacy and dignity is respected at all times
  • To undertake all training and education as deemed appropriate by Matron
  • To use the department computer systems to search for patients and locate them for relatives and other health care professionals
  • Answering telephone enquiries from patients, relatives, GP's and other outside bodies dealing with them or referring appropriately.
