Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).

NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith.

NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog.

As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

- "The Operational Security Specialist is a role of strategic significance within the Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS), Central Security Team, Security & Safeguards. I need an experienced, proactive, dynamic and pragmatic operational security specialist who can help the NRS Fleet in achieving excellence in operational security matters that maintain compliance against legal & regulatory expectations and provide cost effective & fit for purpose solutions."_


Key Deliverables:


  • Deputise for the Operations Security Manager as required.
  • Develop and define consistent operational requirements for security.
  • Deliver (in conjunction with Site Security Managers):
  • Consistent direction and improved operational security activities.
  • Exercise arrangements and incident management across all security and interdependent areas.
  • Design, delivery and evaluation of identified training, acting as evaluator, coach and mentor as necessary.
  • Support the oversight of Operational Contracted Guarding arrangements.
  • Engagement with Regulators to ensure a clear understanding of the operational security requirements and to deliver proportionate, riskbased solutions as part of the risk framework.
  • Provide consistent assurance of Site Security arrangements in conjunction with the Assurance Standard and regulatory requirements.
  • Engage with & function as primary POC for site security managers (SSM's) to provide support and assist in the delivery of effective and efficient provision of security response on sites.
  • Monitor security performance and act as necessary to maintain security standards and improve performance.
  • Identify good practice in performance at sites and externally. Promote this across the Functions/Sites.
  • Perform duties as directed by Operations Security Manager, supporting the central security team and sites delivery as directed within their range of skills, knowledge, experience and competence.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant Govt L6 qualification.
  • Leadership and line management experience.
  • Extensive & demonstrable operational security experience ideally in a regulated environment to include physical and personnel security measures as well as manned guarding.
  • Knowledgeable in security regulations in particular NISR 2003, Govt 007 & SyAPs.
  • Experienced in the conduct of security audits, advisory visits and assurance activities.
  • Management/performance management of contracted security services.
  • Stakeholder engagement to include Government bodies.
  • Training/Teaching & training plan skills desirable.
  • Ability to hold SC vetting.
  • Ability to travel across NRS fleet.
