Description

CORE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES To work under the supervision of the qualified clinician team and Senior IUC HCA and to deliver care within own areas of competency.

To deal with all general enquires and explain procedures To handle telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.

Enter patient information onto the electronic medical records system as part of the Initial Assessment Pathway and other clinical duties.


Ensure that all care provided by yourself is documented appropriately Work as an effective support team member of the clinical team Developing responsibilities To undertake basic observations recording NEWS and POPS appropriately in medical records and report changes to a Registered Nurse (RN).

Ensure individual patient needs are met Recognise changes in patient condition and report to a Qualified Nurse, Senior HCA or Band 3 HCA Instigate emergency procedures eg.

Fire, CPR Maintaining the Environment To maintain standards of Infection, Prevention and Control within the organisation.

Assist in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards in the department Keep all reception areas safe, clean, and tidy conveying an appearance of a well-cared for, friendly, and inviting ward e.g., remove clutter, tidy notice boards Carry out spot cleaning to ensure spillages are dealt with swiftly and efficiently Respect the privacy and dignity of patients whilst carrying out housekeeping duties Ensure that all waste is stored correctly according to Trust Policy Carry out daily and weekly checks within the department and report any problems to the Estates Department Ensure general and specialist equipment are cleaned according to Trust policy e.g., IV stands, ECGs, BM monitors, etc Ensure that all isolation areas are cleaned appropriately Clean and check oxygen and suction equipment and report any deficits General Duties Provide Clerical support for clinical staffing Assist with the training of new Clinical Support Workers into department routines to achieve required standards General portering duties, as agreed with the department manager/s e.g., delivery and collection of pharmacy items, patient movement to other departments Safeguarding Be knowledgeable about adult and child safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring that they are up to date with these processes and complete training as required in liaison with the Senior IUC Healthcare Assistant and Safeguarding Lead Matron.

Will maintain compliance with the safeguarding mandatory training agenda and comply with any further training as necessary Will have a responsibility to report suspected, observed, or disclosed abuse Clinical Governance Participate in the MKUCS Appraisal and Personal Development Plan process by identifying your own development needs and agreeing on development plans with a clinical supervisor/mentor Ensure awareness of when and how to report untoward incidents and how to respond appropriately to complaints Ensure that you are clinically safe at all times Participate in clinical and non-clinical audits when required Ensure your mandatory and competency-based training is kept up to date Ensure that own actions support equality, diversity, and rights and maintain quality
