Nursery Assistant (Apprentice)

Reports to:
Room Leader/Deputy Manager

Job description


Role overview and responsibilities:


  • Ensuring high quality childcare and education is provided in a safe and clean environment in line with Ofsted requirements and EYFS inside and outside of the nursery
  • To report any Safeguarding concerns about children or staff you may have to your DSL and follow procedures as required
  • Mentoring and supporting other staff in the nursery and work as a team, communication is key, ensure junior staff are fulfilling their roles and responsibilities, support them or ask for help for them
  • Planning activities for the children and activities to support individual needs
  • Knowledge of SEND and have an inclusive approach as we do throughout the nursery
  • Carrying out progress checks and communicating your findings with parents/carers, completion of termly reports, observations, planning and next steps for the children in the room. Thorough understanding of the EYFS Reforms & new Development matters and the expectations of this
  • Key work children
  • To work with other professionals in the local area for the benefit of children and families
  • To understand and work to preschool nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies
  • To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident book, risk assessments
  • To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about children's progress and encouraging parents' involvement.
  • To work in partnership with senior management to update and review the selfevaluation and improvement plan
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the Nursery aims and objectives
  • Be fun and exciting to give the children the best time in nursery
