Purpose

  • To undertake ground maintenance duties in connection with all works within the ground maintenance and Aquadrome contract and to ensure that all work is carried out to a high quality and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Health and Safety

  • Ensure before starting work that you have all the Personal Protective Equipment you need
  • Ensure at all times the safety of people working with you and around your place of work
  • Ensure that all plant and equipment is in good safe working condition before use
  • To be aware of and understand all Risk Assessments before undertaking tasks
  • Make your supervisor aware of any areas not covered by Risk assessments
  • To attend training courses when required

Maintenance, Grounds Work / Environmental

  • Assist with general maintenance e.g. grass cutting, clearing leaves and litter using appropriate plant and equipment
  • Assist with the horticultural operations e.g. planting, pruning, seeding and watering
  • Assist with grounds maintenance e.g. basic setting out and marking of sports areas and upkeep of artificial / synthetic pitches
  • Assist with the maintenance of sports and play equipment
  • Assist in the preparation and dig graves, including the necessary shoring and shuttering etc

Equipment

  • Ensure that the van/lorry provided is regularly cleaned. Arrange for oil, water and fuel levels and tyre pressures to be checked daily.
  • Complete appropriate forms relating to the use of the van/mowers/plant including those relating to any damage caused through accidents.
  • Keep and maintain power tools and equipment securely in good working order.

Other tasks

  • To undertake general cleaning / building works within the grounds and Aquadrome contract.
  • If required undertake overtime as instructed by the supervisor.

General

  • Report daily to the Grounds Maintenance supervisor, drawing any problem to their line manager's notice.
  • Ensure that all time/work/daily sheets are correctly completed and available at the required time for authorisation.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as may be requested from time to time.
  • You may also be required to undertake administrative duties on behalf of the Electoral Registration


Officer and/or the Returning Officer relating to the registration of electors and the organisation of elections i.e processing postal votes, canvassing properties during office hours.


  • You will consider and implement environmental sustainability as a guiding principal within processes, activities and projects delivered

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Expertise
Post holders may require some of these qualifications depending on tasks undertaken:

  • Some knowledge, interest and experience of horticulture
  • Some plant Awareness / Maintenance Desirable

Experience

  • Some work experience in grounds maintenance / grass cutting / tractor driving, and to be able to work unsupervised from day to day is desirable.

Personal qualities

  • To have a practical common sense approach, the ability to communicate in a polite manner, and be able to carry out lifting and bending regularly.
