The role:


Based in either our London, Bath or Manchester office, you'll be reporting to our DevOps Engineering Team Lead, performing system administration tasks.


Day to day, you'll be:

  • Performing administration of Linux servers
  • Triaging, and responding to, alerts from systems and services
  • Assisting our engineering and IT teams in debugging networking issues
  • Keeping systems up to date with the latest security patches
  • Ensuring systems have appropriate and functional backups
  • Engaging and liaising with hardware and software vendors
  • Managing our software and hardware licences
  • Administering networking hardware, including firewalls and switches

What you'll
need to be
successful:

  • Experience administering Linux systems over SSH
  • Strong diagnostic and debugging skills
  • Knowledge of networking and Internet technologies (including IPv4, IPv6, TCP, UDP, DNS, and DHCP)
  • Experience with scripting languages (particularly Bash and Perl)
  • Experience configuring and maintaining networking infrastructure (firewalls, switches, VLAN management, etc.)
  • The ability to identify, and act upon, opportunities for improvement and automation
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles
  • Absolute integrity and discretion, given your potential level of access to sensitive business data
  • A proactive approach to documentation and knowledge sharing
  • The ability to prioritise multiple tasks of varying urgency, supported by a ticketing system
  • Excellent communication skills, with a high standard of written English

Bonus points if you have experience with:

  • Virtualisation technologies, especially VMware (vSphere, ESXi)
  • RHELbased Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Rocky Linux, etc.)
  • Configuration management systems (especially Puppet)
  • Mailserver administration (especially Postfix)
  • Atlassian products (especially Jira)
  • Monitoring tools (especially Nagios/Icinga)
A degree or certification in a relevant area (e.g. CCNA) may be useful, but isn't essential.
