Description
Role Purpose


To work under the guidance of the SENDCo/senior staff to provide support for the social, emotional and mental health needs of individuals/groups, through a nurture group approach.

Key Accountabilities

  • To support in the running of school nurture group interventions and pastoral support.
  • To plan and facilitate specific wellbeing interventions, e.g. drawing and talking, colourful semantics, Lego therapy and anger or anxiety management.
  • To lead Speech and Language Therapy sessions.
  • To support pupils during time out of lessons, including enrichment and extracurricular activities to ensure they have positive and enjoyable experiences.
  • To contribute to the whole school inclusive ethos, environment and organisation both practically and as a positive role model for pupils and colleagues.
Specific Responsibilities

  • To support pupils' social and emotional development and promote independence in a safe, secure, challenging environment employing strategies to recognise and reward achievement
  • To support the learning of individuals and groups of pupils by ensuring individual needs are met through provision of the nurture room, a bespoke curriculum and wellbeing interventions
  • To develop social communication and emotional literacy to encourage pupils to interact positively with others
  • To prepare and deliver specific wellbeing interventions, making adjustments when necessary to meet individual needs
  • To monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions
  • To communicate effectively with pupils, parents, teachers, and senior staff, giving feedback on the impact of interventions when required
  • To promote the inclusion of all pupils within the school
  • Support the delivery of internal and external assessments
  • To offer support, guidance, and training for other staff on wellbeing strategies and how to meet individual needs, including supporting the progress of EHCP targets and Personalised Learning Plans under the guidance of the SENDCo
  • To promote the consistent use of the behaviour policy and support with classroom behaviour incidents
  • To build positive relationships with parents/carers and support in meetings under the guidance of the teacher/SENDCo
  • To set out and prepare the nurture room according to the needs of the pupils and create an engaging environment that supports learning and celebrates success
  • To supervise and support pupils outside of lessons including lunchtime, breaktime and outings and trips as required
  • Attend staff training and relevant development opportunities as required
  • To contribute and participate positively and professionally in effective relationships with team members to support achievement and progress of pupils and support the culture and ethos of the school
  • To act as a cover supervisor if required
  • To promote and follow the policies and ethos of the school and to promote positive values, attitudes, and good pupil behaviour This job description is neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder may be required by the Headteacher to carry out appropriate duties within the context of the job, skills, and grade

Salary:
£21,192.00-£21,579.00 per year
