Do your bit by joining our Water Byelaws Team as a Byelaws Compliance Officer in Orkney, with the requirement to also undertake Byelaws inspections in Shetland and Caithness areas.

What you'll do

You'll be responsible to enforce The Water Supply (Water Fittings) (Scotland) Byelaws 2014 which prevent waste, misuse, undue consumption and contamination of the water supply.

This helps to protect water quality by ensuring customers' plumbing systems comply with the Water Byelaws.

Some responsibilities for the role include:

  • Working with scheduling team to plan efficient routes and manage diary effectively in order to:
  • Carry out inspections on premises which pose the highest risk to our network
  • Support investigations into suspected contamination incidents
  • Effective decision making by agreeing timescales and corrective actions for contraventions
  • Issuing noncompliance reports and ensuring that contraventions identified are rectified
  • Contribute to the performance of the Water Byelaws Team by ensuring Operational Code timescales and all individual and team objectives are met.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships within team and across Scottish Water to ensure an effective and timely response to customer and internal enquiries.
  • Creating relationships with external stakeholders and customers to ensure that knowledge of requirements of the Water Byelaws is understood in order to achieve compliance
  • Accurately and consistently record evidence to enable report submissions to Scottish Water's Legal Team to support prosecution for noncompliance with the Water Byelaws, if required.
What you'll bring

You'll have a basic understanding of water services and be competent in the use of Microsoft packages (Word, Excel and Outlook).

Be able to demonstrate good written and oral communication skills and experience with ensuring quality of data input.

Some Desirable skills/knowledge but don't worry if you don't:

  • Knowledge of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) (Scotland) Byelaws 2014
  • Knowledge of Water (Scotland) Act specific to Water Byelaws
  • Previous plumbing experience or relevant plumbing qualification
  • Understanding of the construction industry
  • Ability to read technical plumbing schematics
  • Knowledge and practical experience of risk assessment procedures
  • Knowledge of one or more of the corporate systems e.g. Dynamics

Again don't worry if you do not have these, you can expect to receive excellent training and support to enable you to competently carry out this role.
