Are you interested in the challenges and rewards of working with adults who have complex therapeutic and risk needs impacting on, or exacerbated by, their mental health and wellbeing? Would you like to work with the system around the patients, and their family, to facilitate their healthcare journey, maximising their recovery outcomes back to the community?


We are looking for an assistant psychologist to contribute to the provision of a high-quality, specialist psychology service for men and women with complex clinical and forensic needs, detained in low and medium secure services, and based at Prestwich Hospital Site (including Edenfield Centre and the Lowry Unit).

You will join a highly committed and enthusiastic psychology department that comprises of diverse psychology backgrounds, ranging from assistant psychologists, clinical, counselling, and forensic psychologists, and an art therapist.


The post will be mainly based at the low secure male service, Lowry unit, though there will be some other opportunities regarding provision of psychology input in other areas such as medium male secure service and women service.

The post entails supporting the provision of assessments and therapeutic interventions to inpatients, on both an individual and group basis, and under supervision and line management provided by a qualified psychologist.


The service has recently set up a substance misuse group program and mindfulness group, which the psychology team is keen to continue and further develop on the unit.

You will also be invited to contribute to service evaluations and audits, as required.
