***You'll take up this role to ensure that works undertaken on behalf of South East Water remains compliant with legislation and safety codes of practice. The Highways team ensure that when work is undertaken on the public highways, it done with the right level of care and notices in place.

These qualities will be put to use to help maintain a positive working relationship with the 11 different local Highways Authorities we engage with across our water supply area.


As a Highways Compliance Officer, you'll show excellent knowledge of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) and Traffic Management Act 2004 (TMA) to provide advice and guidance to other South East Water colleagues and contractor partners.

You'll also support the coordination of street works, monitor trends in performance and provide regular feedback to highlight areas that needs attention.


This role provides the opportunity to work in a varied and interesting area of the business where you'll lead and contribute to projects that drive our agenda for continuous improvement.

You'll help to prepare training presentations, prepare performance updates and support key projects being delivered. So, you're self-motivated, skilled at using Microsoft packages and enjoy solving problems.

What will you mainly be responsible for delivering?

  • Support the Highways Manager with managing the company's relationship with 11 Highway Authorities.
  • Technical knowledge of NRSWA ,TMA, Permit Schemes, Lane Rental Schemes and associated Code of Practices and Highway authorities, Utilities and Government (HAUC) Advice Notes.
  • Provide advice to internal departments and contractors to enable timely management of all highway activities and notifications.
  • Assist internal customers with the interpretation of Regulations and Codes of Practice.
  • Provide training and advice on current and future highways legislation to colleagues and contractors.
  • Ensure water main replacements and strategic projects are designed, implemented and completed in accordance with NRSWA and TMA by liaising with Project Managers, Project Engineers and contractors.
  • Conducting site safety audits with internal and external stakeholders in compliance with safety Code of Practice.
  • Providing regular management reports, highlighting any areas requiring improvement.
  • Undertake continuous monitoring of works notices/permits to identify trends in performance and feed back to contractors and authorities.
  • Actively promote a positive company image within the Highway Authorities and professional street works bodies.
