The Purpose of This Job
The Head of External Sales is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team responsible for the external sales team and all external customer contacts for the company.
They play a pivotal role in maintaining our customer relations.
This is achieved through the effective management of the external sales team ensuring professionalism and consistently high standards of customer service are met as well as building direct relationships with the Company's key accounts through regular reviews and site visits acting as an executive representative for the business.
The Head of External Sales leads and manages all regional sales activity to drive incremental growth and market share. They are a strategic, partner-centric, and hands-on leader focused on leading a successful external sales team.
They need to be a proven leader with excellent mentoring capabilities and the ability to challenge and grow a team.
They are a value-based leader who can build and maintain a high-integrity culture that motivates people to deliver extraordinary performance.
They need to be a strong communicator who can translate technical features into customer benefits with an exceptional ability to navigate and deal with ambiguity, make informed decisions and take appropriate actions accordingly.
The Main Accountabilities
- Create strong, longlasting relationships with key client stakeholders at both senior and midmanagement levels and act as main point of contact on the company's behalf.
- Supporting the business in negotiating commercial terms with key customers and buying groups
- Establish sales objectives by forecasting and developing annual sales targets for regional areas, projecting expected sales volume and profit for existing and new products
- Maintain sales volume, product mix and selling price by keeping current with supply and demand, changing trends, economic indicators, and competitors
- Manage and implement the sales forecasting, planning and buyer driven sales processes, establishing high levels of quality, accuracy and process consistency
- People management within your department, including recruitment, training, coaching and performance and conducting regular reviews and annual appraisals for your department staff.
- Work with internal/external sales teams and marketing to implement targeted sales strategies.
- Work with the Senior Leadership Team on behalf of clients to ensure the highest level of customer service
- Ensure reports and other internal intelligence and insight is provided to internal stakeholders
- Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve sales targets and expand our customer base
- Support the Senior Leadership Team in the development, implementation and management of effective pricing strategies to maintain competitiveness in the market.
- Ensure that the individual Regional Sales Manager targets and Key account targets are achieved.
- Developing and monitoring Key Performance Indicators for the external sales department.
- Compiling and analysing product sales and revenue data and reporting information to the Board of Directors.
- Develop and maintain an exceptional understanding of the industry, our competitors and our products and continuously strive to improve that knowledge and keep up to date.
- Responsible for Health & Safety within the department in accordance with the company's policies and procedures and current legislation.
- Attending Senior Leadership Team meetings as the external sales lead.
- Liaising with the Operations Manager and Inventory Manager in regard to new business opportunities to ensure sufficient levels of stock are maintained to accommodate for current customer demand and future forecasts
