Key Responsibilities

  • Will be required to work within the AAS department using the instrumentation to a high degree of accuracy, communicating professionally and articulately with other staff members, within the laboratory and to the submitting laboratories. Again, working toa high level of precision and accuracy in accordance with documented methods and SOP's.
  • Ensuring all equipment that the post holder uses on a regular basis are kept clean and in good working order at all times. In cases where equipment is found to be working unsatisfactorily it is the post holder's responsibility to inform the supervisor ordeputy so that repair or maintenance can be arranged.
  • When required, the preparation of calibration standards and/or interference standards required for the analysis of submitted sample solutions for both AAS and ICP.
  • Maintain record keeping in such a way that work is clearly auditable & traceable, within the guidelines of AHK's 17025 accreditation.
  • Undertaking other duties of an appropriate nature, in consultation with the UK Laboratory Manager, ICP Manager, ICP Operations Manager (and/or their deputies) AAS supervisor.
  • Maintain a professional standard and appearance during office hours, while promoting the company and when on company business.
  • Ensure the company's Health & Safety policy is being applied within all laboratory areas under the post holder's purview, informing the Laboratory Director of serious breaches or systematic failure of policy.

  • Partake in individual performance reviews and PDR meetings.
  • Plan, prioritise work in order to achieve results of a high standard and on time.

Communication

  • Ensure effective and timely communications between peer group, other departments and line managers.
  • Actively encourage effective communication with your team.

Person Specification

Required Skills, Competencies and Knowledge

  • Should display an analytical approach in their attitude to all aspects of this position, giving feedback in a professional and timely manner when required.
  • Ability to demonstrate literacy and to be numerate.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work under own initiative in a dynamic work environment with changing daily priorities.
  • Able to demonstrate a high degree of manual dexterity and can occasionally carry loads of up to 10Kg without issue.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Read, understand and follow work instructions and guidelines accurately.
  • Able to communicate effectively in a range of different formats.
  • Proven time management skills, quality driven and proactive.

Required Work Experience

  • Experience with an AAS spectrometer preferred but not essential as training will be given.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment (Ideal but not essential).

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum GCSE equivalent education
