The Development Management team play a key role in the achievement of these themes and we are now looking for a Principal Planning Officer to join the management team on a full-time, permanent basis.

The built environment, individual buildings, open countryside and unique coastline are a vital part of what makes Sunderland unique.

As a Principal Planning Officer, you will play a key role in delivering the ambitions of the City Plan whilst conserving and enhancing the cities natural and built environment.


The Role:
As a Principal Planning Officer, you will support the delivery of our development management service that aims to conserve and enhance the natural and built environment across the city


Further duties include undertaking discussion and negotiation with applicants, agents and interested third parties in respect of aspects of Development Management, managing a small team of technical officers, verbal presentation of reports to Planning Committee, representing the service area and authority at meetings both internal and external, the preparation of appeal statements an presenting evidence at hearings and public inquiries as well as assisting in all other related matters.
