We are looking for a PA to Head of School to join our friendly Staffing Support Team.

We are looking for someone who enjoys providing advice and support to others, whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy in their work.


The Opportunity:


As PA to the Head of School, the Higgs Chair of Theoretical Physics and other senior staff you will engage with a wide range of staff, students and external visitors, providing a professional and efficient service.

T he Staffing Support team is a very busy team with significant interaction with academic and professional services staff.

No two days are the same in our busy team and you will enjoy a variety of tasks, interacting with a wide range of people and systems.


You should have vocational qualifications (N/SVQ 3, ONC or equivalent) plus typically two years' work experience in a similar role.

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise across competing demands, the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines are required.

You should have excellent communication and 'people' skills, a creative approach to problem-solving and a high level of attention to detail.

You should be able to demonstrate a high level of competence with MS Office.


Based in the James Clerk Maxwell Building on the leafy green King's Buildings campus with gorgeous view to the south of the city, we offer on-site parking, a number of catering outlets and an on-site shop for convenience.


Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Good standard of education to Standard Grade or equivalent plus relevant experience.
  • Good IT Skills using MS Office, in particular Outlook, Teams, Word and Sharepoint.
  • Ability to use initiative when problem solving and when demonstrating excellent customer service.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in a PA type role, or a job with a staffing support related element would be an advantage.
  • Experience of University of Edinburgh systems or of systems in a higher education environment would be an advantage.
