Description

The Department There are 13 Consultant Surgeons / Associate Specialist together with Specialist Registrars, Core Surgical Trainees, Foundation Trainees and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

The department provides a wide range of in-patient and day case procedures plus emergency General Surgery. There are opportunities in General Surgery, Colorectal, Breast and Upper GI.

The department has an excellent reputation for laparoscopic surgery and performs significant numbers of laparoscopic colorectal resections, groin and ventral hernia repairs and Nissens Fundoplications each year.

The laparoscopic approach is routine for appendectomy and cholecystectomy (both elective and emergency).

The team run a Surgical SDEC with senior clinicians seeing directly streamed and referred patients and manage inpatients with short lengths of stay on a Surgical Assessment Unit.

Urology Service The department has 5 Consultants, plus Specialty and Foundation Trainees. Activity includes outpatient, day case surgery, inpatient elective procedures and emergency admissions.


Out of hours urology is cross-covered by general surgery and this post may be expected to contribute to urology patient management, adding to the breadth of experience.

The Post The weekend frequency is currently 1:9, covering both General Surgery and Urology.

If you are not On-Call then you will be timetabled to clinical duties which may include being the duty ward doctor, ensuring that you refer to the Core Values of the trust and most importantly ensure great patient care is given to all patients.

This is an opportunity for you to obtain as much education and growth within this role to supplement your portfolio.

Please note this is not a formal training programme. Responsible for Inpatients, out Patients and emergency care of all General Surgical patients.

On-call/Full Shift duties You will participate in a full shift rota with senior support directly available 24 hours per day.
