We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic psychology assistant to join the Shrewsbury West & Rural team in Shropshire.

Multi-disciplinary team working is central to the role.

You will be providing support to clinical psychologists and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to deliver and enhance the psychological care of service users across Shropshire.

You will be involved in delivering therapeutic interventions with individuals on a 1:1 basis and in groups. This will be under close supervision from qualified psychologists.


Applicants should have previous experience of working in mental health in the NHS and knowledge and skills in working with people who present with severe and enduring mental health difficulties.

Applicants should have a degree in psychology that is recognised by the BPS.


We have strong links with the Clinical Psychology Doctorate course at Stafford University and the Counselling Psychology Doctorate course at Wolverhampton University and regularly offer trainee placements.

Travel will be required as a part of this role across the service locality.


To support and enhance the professional psychological care of service users, by assisting qualified practitioners in the delivery and evaluation of cost-effective services, that meet; Trust and Directorate objectives, national strategic and policy guidelines, commissioner requirements and user and carer needs and expectations.


To support and enhance the professional psychological care of service users within the pathway by providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions, which will be mostly group based.


The post holder will be able to work autonomously and collaboratively with pathway colleagues according to an agreed work plan, under the supervision of the team Clinical Psychologists.

The post holder will assist with clinical administration, conducting service audits, collating statistics, and developing audit and/or research projects.

RESPONSIBLE FOR:


Providing support to Consultant/Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologists, other clinical psychologists and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to deliver and enhance the psychological care of service users.


WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Carers, relatives, local authority, other healthcare providers, statutory bodies, voluntary sector.


Key Duties and responsibilities:

  • To undertake protocol based psychological assessments with service users, family members and others involved in the service user's care.
  • To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a service user's problems, including simple procedures and techniques related to psychological therapies.
  • To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups including receiving and managing referrals, facilitating service user attendance, codelivering the workshop material and recording outcomes.
