As a Mentor for Primary and Secondary Age Pupils, your primary purpose is to provide guidance, support, and inspiration to students during their crucial formative years.

This role is pivotal in fostering positive academic, social, and emotional development, contributing significantly to the overall well-being and success of the students.

Main duties and responsibilities


Academic Guidance:

  • Assist students in setting realistic academic goals and help them develop effective study habits.

Social and Emotional Support:

  • Create a safe and nurturing environment for students to express themselves.
  • Address and help resolve social and emotional challenges that students may face, such as peer relationships, selfesteem, and stress management.

Goal Setting and Planning:

  • Collaborate with students to establish shortterm and longterm personal and academic goals.
  • Guide them in creating actionable plans to achieve their goals, promoting a sense of responsibility and selfmotivation.

Communication and Relationship Building:

  • Establish open and effective communication channels with students, parents, and teachers to ensure a holistic understanding of each student's needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with mentees, creating an environment where they feel comfortable seeking guidance.

Role Modeling and Inspiration:

  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating qualities such as resilience, integrity, and a passion for continuous learning.
  • Inspire and motivate students to explore their interests, discover their strengths, and pursue their aspirations.

Monitoring Progress and Evaluation:

  • Regularly assess mentees' progress in both academic and personal development.
  • Provide constructive feedback, celebrating achievements and identifying areas for improvement, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Collaboration with School Staff:

  • Work closely with teachers, counsellors, and other school staff to address students' individual needs and contribute to a supportive learning environment.
Criteria

Experience/Knowledge

  • Proven experience working in education or training within the UK.
  • Current Knowledge of the National Curriculum

Skills:


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Strong organisation skills.
  • Empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by students in their primary and secondary education years
  • Patience and the ability to adapt mentoring strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
