We are currently looking for a Technical Engineer to run our PPE Testing facility based in Edinburgh


The role will involve delivering consultancy excellence for our clients as well as providing professional and technical support internally and externally.

You will be required to work to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and UKAS quality standards, therefore previous experience of working within an accredited environment would be ideal but not essential.


Our personal protective equipment (PPE) testing services predominantly involve testing the standard of protective suits and fabrics by penetration testing methods and also includes respirator face fit testing.


Salary:
£28,000 - £34,000 per annum dependent on qualifications and experience


Technical Engineer Duties:


  • Undertake suit testing for penetration by aerosols or liquids following standard operating procedures:
  • Total Inward Leakage (TIL) to test the resistance of protective clothing both ventilated and non-ventilated (Type 5) to penetration by a fine particle aerosol. Tested to European Standards ISO13982(1/2) and ISO1073 (parts 1 and 2);
  • Light and Heavy spray testing (Types 4 and 6) for the determination of the resistance of protective clothing to penetration by a spray of liquid. Tested to EN a);
  • Jet testing (Type 3) for the determination of resistance of protective clothing to penetration by a jet of liquid. Testing to EN and tested to performance requirements set out in EN1460
  • Organisation of volunteer suit testers to meet client demand
  • Report the results of suit testing to clients using standard reporting formats.
  • Undertake calibrations, calibration checks and equipment maintenance following procedures as required for TIL and spray test rigs and associated equipment
  • Organise calibrations for externally calibrated kit to the standards required by UKAS
  • Provide quotations and discuss testing requirements with existing and prospective clients
  • Check and report analytical results and approve the work of authorised PPE Technicians as required
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with PPE clients
  • Contribute to the development of new test methods and explore opportunities to widen our services portfolio
  • Be able to provide advice on PPE requirements for different types of activity involving hazardous substances

Technical Engineer Requirements:


  • You will have either an engineering, maintenance or scientific technical background
  • Experience of working to UKAS or similar quality standards is ideal but not essential
  • Have previous experience of working within a commercial environment including face to face contact with clients
  • Highly motivated and organised individual with a flexible approach to work
  • Selfstarter with excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Strong IT skills
  • Problemsolving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
This role would suit someone working at SCQF Level 7.
