Description

Can you help us build a cleaner, greener, fairer future for all? We are looking for a motivated mid-level events professional to join the Communications Team at the Grantham Institute, Imperial College London's hub for climate change and the environment, and one of its Global Challenge Institutes.

You will work with our researchers and students to create attention-grabbing events, influencing debate and helping to communicate positive narratives for action to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises.

Your work will help the team to craft and deliver campaigns that engage diverse audiences with our objectives, working with the Communications Manager, Director of Policy and Translation and other members of the team.

It is an exciting time to be working in climate change and environmental communications, as these issues are rarely out of the headlines, and there is a need to support governments and big businesses in turning public pressure into commitments and action, and the potential to change the future, for the better.

The role of the Events Officer is to lead the development, delivery and management of an annual programme of events, that helps the Communications team to meet the objectives of the five directorates (Innovation, Research, Training, Operations and Policy & Translation) and to engage people in the overall mission of the Institute - to drive effective action on challenges in climate change and the environment.

Presently running events that this role would lead include: the Grantham Annual Lecture (1 per year), high profile and VIP events for the Institute (e.g.

official side events at UNFCCC COP conferences, hosting the 25th anniversary of the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee, average 4 per year), ad hoc events supporting one of the directorates (average 1 per month), and advising event organisers on community events (e.g.

student seminars, EDI events, research workshops, average 2 per month).

This role requires mid-level experience in events strategy and delivery, and project management. The post-holder will be responsible for developing a new strategy to govern this annual programme.

A solid understanding of the causes and solutions to climate change and environmental crises is essential, as well as in-depth knowledge of the barriers to engagement with climate and environment issues among the general public and proven ways to overcome these.

You will contribute to setting team objectives, planning, monitoring the success and impact as part of the Institute's commitment to continuously improve performance against our strategic goals.

You must be able to work flexibly, as some activities take place by necessity outside normal office hours, some weekends, and/or away from the usual place of work.
