Sanctuary Supported Living is the largest provider of housing related support to single homeless people in Suffolk and Norfolk.

The aim of our services is to ensure our clients achieve their own goals and aspirations through the support and encouragement of our staff and focusing on delivering excellent quality.


We are currently seeking a Caretaker to play a vital role in preparing vacant properties for re-let, completing scheme-based repairs and maintaining a safe and well-presented environment across a number of our schemes.


The primary focus of our services is to support clients in a range of areas including, finding employment, recovery from addiction and building stability through a range of social activities.

A successful outcome is achieved when our customers can move on to suitable long-term accommodation appropriate to their needs.


As a Caretaker across our Homeless Supported Housing service you will support our operational teams by carrying out general maintenance in the schemes and grounds, whilst respecting the privacy and dignity of clients within the schemes.

Strong interpersonal skills and a friendly, open manner are essential for success in this role.

The role of Caretaker will include:

  • Supporting operational staff in the quick preparation of properties to re-let to allow vulnerable customers to be re-housed
  • Carrying out day to day repairs to help the running of services and ensure we provide a wellbalanced, supportive, environment.
  • Carrying out weekly Health and Safety checks and risk assessments, adhering to relevant regulations and guidelines
  • Fulfilling general caretaking duties, including basic repairs, cleaning, landscaping and grounds maintenance duties
  • Maintaining an adequate supply of tools and equipment and restocking as necessary, to enable the effective delivery of services
  • Completing accurate daily work records and providing regular updates
  • Identifying potential maintenance issues and reporting these in a timely manner, to maintain a safe environment
  • Travel is a requirement of the role, therefore a full valid driving licence is essential

Skills and experiences:


  • Previous experience in a similar caretaking or maintenance role is essential
  • Ability to identify and/or carry out minor repairs
  • An understanding of basic health and safety in the work place
  • Practical experience in operating hand tools and light machinery is desirable
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal) and organisational skills are key to this role
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
