Shorterm have designed an upskilling programme that takes experienced light vehicle mechanics, HGV mechanics and upskills them to be highly competent passenger bus mechanics.

We also welcome applicants from the rolling stock maintenance, and aircraft maintenanceindustries as well as applicants with blue light vehicle and military vehicle experience.

The programme lasts 12 months with staggered start dates throughout the year.

It is aimed at experienced ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) mechanics who want to:


  • Move into the fast changing passenger bus fleet sector
  • Improve upon their current earning capacity
  • Expand their skill set into the new transportation technologies such as hybrid and EV
  • Capitalise on solid existing motor industry experience, knowledge and hands on technical
ability

  • Future proof their career

The remuneration package is as follows:

  • Shorterm pay a basic annual salary of £31,515 for the training year based on a 42-hour
week and paid weekly.

  • 20 days' annual leave excluding bank holidays (paid on 8 days).
  • The role is based on a day shift basis. You can move to a night shift (you will be
expected to work shifts)

  • When working on night shift you will be paid £34,988

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Carrying out routine repairs, inspections and maintenance on the fleet
  • Investigating, diagnosing and rectifying mechanical & electronic faults
  • Rectifying running defects
  • Carrying out routine servicing
  • General maintenance and repair
  • Documenting faults and rectification work conducted in detail with the aid of electronic
tablets

  • Ensuring appropriate 'clocking's' are made and that all job cards and service sheets are
completed in a timely manner

  • MOT preparation / presentation
  • Liaising with the parts department to attain correct parts
  • Completion of all required paperwork
  • Hold a full UK drivers licence
  • Own a laptop and have domestic internet connectivity
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Live within easy commute of a designated garage
  • Have a least 5 years post apprenticeship/ qualification experience as detailed below
  • Own a tool box and tools as befits a practicing car mechanic or equivalent
Be highly competent and experienced with all aspects of light vehicle maintenance, service and repair including or equivalent:

  • Carrying out fault diagnostics
  • Inspections
  • Identifying problems with vehicles using diagnostic equipment
  • Carrying out hands on repairs and services to vehicles following specific procedures
  • Completing road tests
  • Signing off on necessary warranty repairs
