Description

JFS is a very long established, privately owned, small business. We import, stock and sell dried herbs, spices and other botanical products to a range of UK and overseas customers. As well as JFS, we have a newly established sister company, Mimea Mauzo which sells JFS products in smaller quantities online.

We are a small, tight knit, family feel business with big aspirations to continue the successful growth of JFS through new business development and product diversification.

With 17 employees based at our warehouse in Peterborough we are now looking to bring on board another Quality Assurance Assistant to help with ensuring we only import high quality products that meet standards requirements and that we maintain a safe environment where policies and procedures related to quality and safety are adhered to.

We pride ourselves on looking after to and listening to our staff and maintain high standards of quality and customer service.

Because we are a small team we ideally want team players who are prepared to help support others in pretty much any activity if needed. A sense of humour is desirable, commitment to our successful enterprise and our great crew is essential.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Food Safety

  • Preparation of specifications for products and certificates of Analysis
  • Coordination of sample testing and retention
  • Support the closure of nonconformances raised through external or customer audits.
  • Ensure the smooth and successful introduction of new products to site, working closely with procurement to ensure all prerequisites have been completed prior to trials
  • Manage the process for any Shelf life extension requests and concessions for raw materials
Ensure the quality of product produced meets our specifications by (but not limited to):

  • Ensuring visual inspection of products is completed on arrival
  • QC checks are completed and accurately recorded in accordance to various accreditations gained
  • Microbiological/ Chemical/Heavy Metals/Pesticide Testing is completed where appropriate
  • Ensuring the production teams understand the required standards within the production and associated areas

Incident and Crisis Management

  • Complaints investigations
  • Support other functions in the investigation and root cause of issues raised by customers
  • Ensure the change requests issued by Quality function are followed through to completion Non-Conforming Products
  • Confidence to challenge and coach people into improvements
  • Vetting of suppliers and annual supplier reviews
Other duties as required including photographing products.


Qualifications
Some level of commercial qualification would be desirable. Reasonable qualifications in maths and English essential.

  • Commercial awareness, understanding costs, profit and good business
  • A good level of numeracy for basic maths related to money, volumes, weights etc. An ability to interpret and experience of translating guidance into practical processes. Background in internal audit
  • Willingness to undertake training relevant to the role

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Quality practices
  • Familiar with Sage 200 but other packages would suffice provided proper experience of commercial modules.
  • Experience with BRC and ISO accreditations desirable

Experience

  • Several year's demonstrable experience in Quality or procurement or similar
  • Confident use of IT for business purposes, including MS Office products in particular Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience in a food business desirable

  • Compliance with external audits
  • Low level of complaints and zero major incidents

Remuneration

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
  • Performance related bonus based on tar
