Reporting to the Technical Manager, the job holder will be part of the Technical/Quality department.
The role will provide support to the Technical Manager in ensuring that the quality management system is maintained by the company and will be responsible for the testing activities in the laboratory and where applicable on the coating line to ensure customer product quality standards are achieved.
Ensure preventive and corrective actions are closed out and implemented in a timely manner and that they are effective.
The Technical Officer will communicate directly with Suppliers and Customers on all quality related matters and may when required visit their premises to resolve issues.
Responsible for ensuring that a tidy workplace is maintained and for meeting Personal and Company Health and Safety requirements.
Set and work towards achieving objectives and targets for the Technical/Quality department.
Improve Internal / Customer / Supplier Quality Performance.
Ensure the promotion of awareness of customer requirements throughout the organisation.
Produce summary reports on the performance of the Quality management System at prescribed intervals.
Ensure that all personnel have access to the QA information to support in achieving the company objectives.
Assist with new product development testing or investigations into non-conforming product to help to formulate corrective actions providing test reports when required.
Determining mechanical properties using Tensile Test machine or Rockwell Hardness, preparing test panels by drawdown, compare colour on drawdown or supplier panels to master standard and/or previous batch, measure on colour computer if applicable, test for physical properties as required and compare to paint and job specification, advise supplier of approval status and maintain and update pre-batch standards file.
Preparation and maintaining of coating line colour standards file- review ClinPlan and ensure colour standards are available to production, review and replace standards on a timely basis and issue standards for new paint codes.
Produce Customer Test Certificate to BSEN , 2.2, 3.1 AND 3.2- on request from Sales. Retain electronic copies of all Test Certificates issued.
Calibration
- review Calibration Records monthly and schedule equipment for calibration as required, carry out calibration on those equipment's identified for internal calibration. Organise external calibration and servicing of equipment outside of our capability. Arrange for service engineers to visit site or co-ordinate the return of specialised equipment to the supplier for calibration.
Paint and Chemical TDS and MSDS files
- maintain TDS and MSDS files in the lab, request TDS and MSDS from suppliers for all new paints and chemicals. Perform COSHH assessment.
Analyse paint usage data using available information, Fisher Dualscope and / or Strip & Reweigh test methods to support findings.
- preparation of Lab Specimens, help develop special testing procedures, assist developing product and process specifications, test and assess new materials.
Support Senior Management with the achievement and improvement of performance of the Quality Management System.
Technical Competencies
Good awareness of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 requirements
Good Operational and Commercial awareness.
Good IT skills using Microsoft packages Word, Excel and Outlook etc.
Process / Procedure Development and Report Writing.
Experience and qualifications
Minimum 3 years in a Manufacturing / Laboratory environment, preferably with coatings experience.
Qualified to HND/Degree level or equivalent.
Good understanding of Microsoft Office programs eg. Word, Excel, Outlook
