Description

To ensure that all residents receive quality care in a homely, pleasant and happy surroundings and that the needs and wishes of residents are a priority within the Home.


To ensure residents are cared for in a way that respects their dignity, promotes their privacy, individuality and independence, helps ensure they have their rights upheld, gives them choices and as fulfilling a life as is possible.

Main Duties & Responsibilities


  • Provide personal care such as washing, toileting, bathing, showering, dressing and assisting residents to undress/dress should they require assistance.
  • Help residents who have limited mobility or have disabilities to make the best use of aids provided to maximise their independence following the homes policy and procedures and legislation on moving and handling.
  • Promote continence and assist in the control and treatment of incontinence to provide comfort and good personal hygiene whilst ensuring residents retain their dignity and privacy. Use incontinence aids effectively per instruction and training.
  • Care for residents who are unwell or are terminally ill by providing palliative care, taking into account their wishes and needs as per their care planning and training of End of Life Care received upon induction and supervisions.
  • Assist in giving stimulation to residents by talking to them, helping them to continue with hobbies and activities both inside and outside of the home to help them achieve a more fulfilling life. Monitor informally (verbally) and formally (Daily Report Book and Report Sheets) whether residents' needs are being met and that any concerns regarding the care of a resident is brought to the attention of senior carers. Ensure that residents' views are respected and given every consideration and that they are given opportunities to express their own views are respected and given every consideration and that they are given opportunities to express their own views with individually or through Residents Meetings as per their Personalisation Agenda.
  • Answer call bells, the door and telephone.
  • Ensure that visitors are made welcome, given any assistance when required directed to more senior staff if specific enquiries are made about a residents health concern.
  • Make and change beds, empty commodes, clean rooms and do laundry.
  • Ensure that you are fully aware of any changes in medication, care needs etc.
  • If required complete reports/entries ensuring that the correct procedures are used and the required format is followed, ensure the information is accurate and legible and in line with the confidentially policy and Data Protection Act.
  • Ensure residents who need assistance feeding are given the necessary help and suitable meals, set and clear the dining room, wash up, prepare light meals when required, ensure residents are regularly refreshed with drinks and fluids and document any diet and fluid intake as required on the correct forms, these must be completed every 2 hours if monitoring is required.
  • Observe all the policies and procedure of the Home e.g. Health and Safety, Fire Procedures, Moving and Handling, Confidentiality, GSCC Code of Conduct Medication etc.
  • Uniform must be worn when in work: This includes Tunic (polo top if you are waiting for tunic to be ordered), Black trousers and black shoes. Jewellery must not be worn apart from wedding bands and small studded earrings. False nails mustn't be worn.
  • Take part in staff training as is deemed necessary by Management.
  • Attend staff meetings, this is required for you to update and be aware of changes, gain information regarding CQC, BwD and information about your duties, job, wages etc.
  • Other duties determined by Senior Carers

Part-time hours: 16-30 per week

From £10.42 per hour
